YOUR IDENTITY CARD: ALWAYS HAVE IT WITH YOU!

Hospitals are obliged to verify the identity of patients when applying the electronic third-party payment system. This obligation, which has been in place since October 1st 2017 for the home care sector, will be extended to hospitals after a test period. The date of this obligation is not yet known.

WHY APPLY FOR AN ELECTRONIC IDENTITY CARD?
The aim is to avoid administrative and billing errors. It is an administrative simplification that will ensure efficient cooperation between hospitals and health insurance companies. The system also helps to fight possible fraud, even though the vast majority of hospitals and the care providers working in them already apply the health insurance rules correctly. It also prevents fraud by patients (regarding their identity).
