Code Orange for flu
The flu epidemic is intensifying, leading to an increase in the number of patients admitted to hospital. Belgium is now under code orange. For hospitals, this means:
Basic recommendations:
- Disinfect your hands regularly with a hydroalcoholic solution.
- Ventilate indoor areas several times a day for a few minutes.
- Use single-use tissues or sneeze into your elbow and wash your hands.
- Wearing a mask :
- Mandatory for all patients (accompanying persons and visitors) entering the centre.
- Exceptions for certain people (psychiatric patients, children under 12, confused patients, patients with hearing problems who read lips).
- Vaccination:
- Vaccination protects against severe forms of the disease but does not guarantee total freedom from infection.
- Vaccinated people who contract a respiratory infection can still spread the virus for 5 to 10 days after the onset of symptoms.
There's still time to get vaccinated against flu this year.
